June WCA Meeting Agenda
"HP's Mobile E-services Bazaar,"Andrew
Bolwell
The lines between our professional
and personal lives are blurring, business is increasingly conducted
"on the go", and we want to be able to access information
and services no matter where we are. Mobile operaters are actively
looking to mobile e-services as a way to help their customers
better live this mobile lifestyle, and as the future growth
engine for their business. This presentation will focus on how
HP's Mobile E-services Bazaar is bringing together players from
all over the mobile ecosystem to address this opportunity, and
how companies providing mobility solutions can work with HP
to help invent this new future.
Andrew Bolwell began his career
with Hewlett-Packard in 1989 as one of two engineers supporting
HP-UX in Australia, and then moved on to Japan, where he was
responsible for developing HP’s consulting business with key
global accounts across Asia Pacific. Andrew then returned to
California and to business development for HP’s ImagineCard
Alliance, a smart card initiative with Informix and Gemplus,
and then worked with Yahoo! to develop and market corporate
portals. He is now global leader of Hewlett Packard’s Mobile
e-Services Bazaar.
Cometa's Nationwide Wi-Fi Network,
Michael Kleeman, CTO, Cometa Networks and
Neeraj Bharadwaj, Apax.
Mr. Kleeman will discuss how Cometa is facilitating
the deployment of a wholesale nationwide Wi-Fi network. He will
review some of the technical and business challenges faced by
the company as they become a wholesaler of wireless Internet
access to telecommunications companies, ISP's, cable operators,
wireless carriers, large retail chains, hotels and universities.
"Wi-Fi continues to be the fastest growing
wireless technology," said Michael J. Kleeman, Chief Technology
Officer of Cometa Networks. "Over the past few years, there
have been many attempts to deploy public Wi-Fi hot-spots. In
my presentation, I will demonstrate how Cometa's technology
and business model are both aligned for success." Founded
in December 2002 by AT&T, IBM, and Intel with Apax and 3i,
Cometa Networks is pioneering
wholesale Wi-Fi. Neeraj Bharadwaj of Apax recounts how the deal
was put together to found Cometa, and then CTO Michael Kleeman
discusses Cometa's business model and the Wi-Fi products it
will use to extend the PSTN.
