For April, the WCA will present two speakers
looking at the 3rd Generation Market. Ms Healy will make a presentation
that focuses on Multimedia applications and Mr. Bernstein will
present AT&T's vision for building the next generation network
that will carry these services.
"IP Multimedia Subsystems:
Results of Analysis for UMTS Forum",
Eileen Healy, CTO of Telecompetition.
Eileen Healy, CEO of Telecompetition, will
discuss the results of a report done for the UMTS Forum that
analyzes the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). This technology
represents a market estimated at $322 billion worldwide by
2010. IMS provides a vision of robust, highly valuable services
that integrate multimedia activities and allow services to
interact with each other, thus enhancing the natural, intuitive
process of the end user, in whatever network he is operating
-- fixed, mobile, or roaming. Ms. Healy will share information
on the resultant integration that opens up possibilities for
far richer services than are available today.

Vision for next generation Wireless",

Charlie Bernstein, AT&T Wireless Bay Area
Vice President/General Manager, will share the company's vision
of next generation wireless which will include a rollout of
2.5G coverage throughout the country by year's end. He will
describe how 2.5G and 3G compare to today's service and discuss
the next killer apps to revolutionize mobile multimedia. Along
with mobile Internet phones, AT&T Wireless customers will
enjoy converged networks for voice and data, new mobile multimedia
applications, an expanded offering of handsets and other devices,
and worldwide roaming on other GSM networks.
