WCA April 1997 Meeting
The April meeting of the Wireless Communications Alliance (WCA) was held Tuesday, 4/15, at 4:00 PM at Loral WDL in San Jose.
The WCA, a nonprofit corporation, is dedicated to the mutual benefit of area companies and organizations involved in wireless communications technologies.
Rich Hendrickson, Manager of Satellite Operations Control for the Globalstar Partnership, spoke on "The Globalstar Mobile Communications Service".
Globalstar is a Low-Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellite-based system for low cost voice & data service using CDMA technology. Rich provided a general overview of Globalstar, which covered Globalstar's system architecture, market opportunities, and international partnership. He placed special emphasis on the newly constructed control center.
Following the presentation, a tour was be conducted. It began with a video of the control center construction, and an inside tour of the completed ground and space control areas of the control center. This included representative control software screens at work-positions and on the large screen displays.
