The June meeting of the Wireless Communications Alliance (WCA) took place Tuesday, June 18, at Apple Computer in Cupertino.
The WCA, a nonprofit corporation, is dedicated to the mutual benefit of area companies and organizations involved in wireless communications technologies.
Jeff Abramowitz, of 3COM and President of the Wireless LAN Alliance, spoke on: "The Wireless LAN Industry".
This presentation covered the value and industry growth dynamics of wireless LANs and the role of the Wireless LAN Alliance (WLANA). WLANA is comprised of 13 key vendors in the WLAN industry and its purpose is to provide education about wireless LAN solutions.
John Ledahl, Director of Wireless Programs for Dataquest addressed: "The 2-way Wireless Market for Cellular and PCS; 1996 & 1998".
An overview of the cellular/PCS marketplace was provided. John's presentation covered the impact of the Telecom Act of 1996 and the results of FCC auctions to date. He made projections for 1998 - the explosive year in wireless communications.
