The February meeting of the Wireless Communications Alliance (WCA) took place on Tuesday, February 13, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The meeting date and location coincided with the 4th Annual Wireless Symposium and Exhibition.

Henny Wright, a partner in the Washington, D.C. telecommunications law firm of Goldberg, Godles, Wiener & Wright, spoke on: "Federal Government Influence on Wireless Communications".

A rider to an FCC authorization bill may have a greater impact on businesses than a more publicized topic like Telecommunications Reform Legislation was described. Ms. Wright's talk included a status report on a number of FCC proceedings of interest to the wireless community, such as threats to and opportunities for various unlicensed bands (900 MHz, 2400 MHz, the NII Band" at 5 GHz, and above 40 GHz) plus an analysis of the overarching threat of spectrum auctions.

Kevin Compton, a General Partner at the venture capital firm of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers spoke on: "What Venture Firms are Looking for in Start-up Companies".

Kevin, who focuses on communications technologies, described recent wireless investments of Kleiner Perkins.
