WCA April 1996 Meeting


The April meeting of the Wireless Communications Alliance (WCA) took place Tuesday, April 16, at Hewlett-Packard in Santa Clara.

The WCA, a nonprofit corporation, is dedicated to the mutual benefit of area companies and organizations involved in wireless communications technologies.


Ron Cross (Northern Telecom), President of WINForum and an officer of UTAM, spoke on: "WINForum, UTAM, and the FCC Petition for 5 GHz Unlicensed Service".

The activities of WINForum including the Supernet petition were covered. Ron also provided an update on UTAM, the organization that is chartered to coordinate relocation of existing licensees from the 2 GHz PCS frequencies.

"The Impact of the 1996 Telecommunications Act on the Unlicensed Part 15 Wireless Industry". .

The Federal Communications Commission is tasked with generating a new set of rules, some dealing with wireless services. Burt described the involvement of the Part 15 Coalition and made suggestions for others interested in providing inputs.
